Remote-Controlled Dredging Robot Solution for Efficient Pond Sediment Removal
A public landscape pond in Chile had experienced long-term sediment accumulation, organic deposits, and algae residues due to continuous operation. Over time, thick sediment layers formed at the bottom of the pond, affecting water circulation, water quality, and the overall appearance of the park environment.
Traditional pond cleaning methods required draining the water or using manual labor, which was time-consuming, costly, and disruptive to the surrounding landscape.
To solve this challenge, Elephant Machinery provided a customized pond sediment removal robot solution. The remote-controlled dredging system was designed to remove bottom sediment efficiently while minimizing disturbance to the pond environment.
Project Background: Sediment Accumulation in Landscape Pond
The customer managed a landscape pond located in a public park in Chile. After years of operation, the pond developed several maintenance problems:
- Thick sediment deposits at the bottom
- Accumulated organic matter and decaying plants
- Reduced water circulation
- Increased difficulty in routine maintenance
Because the pond was part of a public landscape area, draining the pond completely was not an ideal option. The customer needed a solution that could:
- Remove underwater sediment without emptying the pond
- Reduce manual cleaning work
- Protect the surrounding environment
- Complete the project efficiently

Customized Pond Sediment Removal Robot Solution
Based on the pond size, sediment conditions, and discharge requirements, Elephant Machinery recommended a customized remote controlled dredging robot solution equipped with the YG900 dredging robot system.
The YG900 model was selected because of its:
- Larger dredging capacity
- Strong sludge suction performance
- Stable operation on soft pond bottoms
- Ability to handle heavier sediment accumulation
1.Powerful Hydraulic Auger for Breaking Hard Sediment
One major challenge of this project was that some areas contained compacted sediment layers that were difficult to remove using ordinary suction equipment.
The robot was equipped with a powerful hydraulic auger cutting system, which could:
- Break hardened sludge layers
- Loosen compacted sediment
- Mix sludge into a pumpable slurry
- Improve suction efficiency
This allowed the machine to remove both soft sludge and partially hardened bottom deposits effectively.
2.High-Efficiency Sludge Suction and Long-Distance Transportation
After sediment was loosened, the slurry was transported through a high-pressure pumping system.
The customized solution included:
- High-power sludge suction pump
- Long-distance discharge pipeline
- Connection with a sludge vacuum truck
The extracted sediment could be directly transported to a designated disposal area through the pipeline system, reducing manual handling requirements.
The pipeline length could also be customized according to the actual project distance, making the system suitable for different park pond layouts.
How the Underwater Pond Cleaning Robot Worked?
During operation, the underwater pond cleaning robot entered the pond and moved steadily across the muddy bottom through its crawler system.
The cleaning process included:
1. Robot Positioning
The operator controlled the robot remotely and guided it to areas with heavy sediment accumulation.
2. Sediment Breaking
The hydraulic auger rotated to break and loosen compacted sediment layers.
3. Sludge Suction
The loosened sediment was converted into slurry and extracted through the suction system.
4. External Transportation
The sludge was pumped through pipelines and collected by a sludge truck for further treatment.
This process avoided the need for workers to enter the pond and significantly improved cleaning safety.
Advantages of the Pond Sediment Removal Robot Solution
Compared with traditional pond dredging methods, the robotic solution provided several advantages:
1.No Need to Drain the Pond
The robot can operate underwater directly, allowing pond restoration without completely removing water.
2.Reduced Environmental Disturbance
The crawler design enables stable movement on soft pond bottoms while reducing unnecessary disturbance to aquatic environments.
3.Efficient Sediment Removal
The combination of:
- Hydraulic auger
- Powerful suction pump
- High-pressure transportation system
allows efficient removal of accumulated sediment and organic deposits.
4.Flexible Customization
The system can be customized according to:
- Pond size
- Sediment thickness
- Transportation distance
- Sludge characteristics
including robot configuration, pump capacity, and pipeline length.
